Spain working on new system to stop Kylian Mbappe during Euro 2024 semi-final with help of 5 players including Jesus Navas: Reports

According to Diario AS, Spain are formulating a new system to stop Kylian Mbappe in the Euro 2024 semi-final clash. The two European giants lock horns on Tuesday, July 9 in Munich.

La Roja defeated Germany 2-1 in a thrilling quarter-final to book their slot in the last four. France, meanwhile, have looked toothless so far. They, however, got the job done against Portugal in the last eight via penalties.

Spain are the only team in the competition with a 100% record while no French player has yet scored a goal from open play. Kylian Mbappe is the only Frenchman to get on the scoresheet as he scored against Poland from the penalty spot in the group stages.

Spain, though, will need to keep the new Real Madrid superstar in check as his quality is undeniable. Luis de la Fuente is reportedly looking to use a special system to stop Mbappe.

As per the aforementioned report, Jesus Navas, Nacho, and Rodri are the main players in that system with Aymeric Laporte and Dani Olmo working as supporting players.

De la Fuente's side have been defensively great so far, conceding only twice in five matches. However, France possess quality, and while Didier Dechamps' side haven't flourished, they can change that in a flash.

Ferran Torres sends message to Kylian Mbappe ahead of Euro 2024 semi-finals

Ferran Torres and Kylian Mbappe are the two recorded fastest players during the ongoing Euro 2024. The France captain tops the top speed chart with 36.5 km/hr being his highest speed.

Torres is a close second at 36 km/hr and the Barcelona attacker is willing to test himself against Mbappe. Torres said ahead of the semi-final showdown in Munich (via Barca Universal):

"Let's see if I have a race with Mbappe and beat him in speed during the semi-finals."

Torres and Mbappe would soon be direct rivals in Spanish football, which acts as an added backdrop. For now, both players have the chance to reach the Euro 2024 final with their respective countries.
