"The window is open, you never know" - PL star responds to rumors linking him with a summer move to Manchester United
Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha has left the door open for a potential move to Manchester United this summer. The Red Devils are said to be on the lookout for a center-forward and Cunha is one of the names linked to join the Old Trafford-based outfit.
In a video doing the rounds on social media, Cunha was asked about his links with Manchester United. In reply to the query, the 25-year-old Brazil international stressed that he was happy with the Wolves but added that anything was possible in the summer window.
"You know it's a real honor to have your name linked with Manchester United, one of the biggest clubs in the world. But I'm really happy at Wolverhampton. If I'm lucky I can play another good season. But the window is open, you never know," he said (via @mufcMPB).
Here's the video:
Matheus Cunha played 36 matches across all competitions for the Wolves in the 2023-24 season, scoring 14 and assisting eight goals in the process. The Brazilian can also play as an attacking midfielder, as he did for Wolves in some games of the recently concluded season.
If the links do materialize, he will compete with Rasmus Hojlund for the striker position at Old Trafford.
Manchester United looking to replace Anthony Martial this summer - Reports
French forward Anthony Martial left Manchester United this summer upon the expiry of his contract. Having joined the Red Devils in 2015, Martial made 317 appearances across all competitions, scoring 90 and assisting 47 goals.
However, his development was heavily hampered by recurring injuries as his contract ran down ultimately. The club are now said to be on the lookout for a replacement, with Cunha one of the names being pitched.
As per ESPN, the 20-time English champions have drawn out a three-man shortlist, which doesn't include Cunha. Brentford's Ivan Toney, Lille's Jonathan David, and Bologna's Joshua Zirkzee are the three names that they have claimed to be attracting interest from the Red Devils.
The report claims that United are also keen on signing a top-class central defender following Raphael Varane's departure. Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite is said to be their top target.
