Tottenham interested in making surprise move for Barcelona and Manchester City target - Reports
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing RB Leipzig forward Dani Olmo, who has also attracted interest from Barcelona and Manchester City.
Olmo has been a key player for Leipzig since arriving from Dinamo Zagreb in 2020. He has registered 29 goals and 34 assists in 145 games for them, winning two DFB-Pokal and one DFL Supercup. His contract with Leipzig expires in 2027 and as per Give Me Sport, he could leave in the summer.
Barcelona and Manchester City have been touted with an interest in him. Olmo came through Barca's academy but didn't make any senior appearances for them before joining Dinamo Zagreb in 2014. The Blaugrana have also spoken to the Spaniard's representatives regarding a potential move.
However, Tottenham have also joined the race to sign Olmo, which could see him potentially reunite with Timo Werner. Spurs signed Werner from RB Leipzig on a six-month loan in January. The German has contributed two goals and three assists in 13 games for them and has impressed overall. Tottenham have a buy option worth €17 million for Werner and could look to sign him permanently.
Olmo, meanwhile, has a €60 million release clause in his contract with Leipzig. He has been in good form this season, registering eight goals and five assists in 22 games across competitions.
Barcelona and Manchester City target Dani Olmo on Tottenham forward Timo Werner
Both players shared the pitch 39 times during their time together at RB Leipzig, combining for two goals. The duo have a good understanding, with Dani Olmo mostly playing as an attacking midfielder and Timo Werner as an attacker.
Olmo said about Werner a few years ago (via Goal):
“He gives you a lot of options because he loves to move all over the pitch. He’s not a target man or a static striker, he likes to drift to the wings or drop into midfield to receive the ball and break the defensive line.
"He’s so fast and he has the killer instinct – he’s scored a lot this season. He’s a player that gives you a lot of opportunities in the way that he plays. I think the place that he fits best is Leipzig and the Bundesliga. He’s doing pretty well where he is.”
While he attracts interest from Barcelona and Manchester City, it appears that Werner's future could potentially also play some part in Olmo's future.
