Vinicius Jr in ‘no hurry’ to sign new Real Madrid contract; reason behind his stance comes to light: Reports
Brazilian superstar Vinicius Jr. is reportedly in 'no hurry' to sign a new contract with Spanish giants Real Madrid. The 23-year-old forward has been one of Los Blancos' best players in the past few seasons, prompting the administration to attempt to tie him down to a longer contract.
Vinicius joined Real from boyhood side Flamengo for a reported €45 million fee in July 2018. He endured a tough start to his tenure at the Santiago Bernabeu, slowly grew into his role and has now become an indispensable part of the squad.
The Brazilian has racked up 91 goals and 82 assists in 279 appearances across all competitions. He delivered some outstanding performances in the 2023-24 season, racking up 24 goals and 11 assists in 39 games en route to the LaLiga, UEFA Champions League and Supercopa de Espana titles.
After the aforementioned successful campaign, Vinicius was widely considered to be one of the favorites to win the 2024 Ballon d'Or title. However, in the ceremony held in Paris a few days ago (October 28), Manchester City's Spanish superstar Rodri was named the winner of the coveted award.
Real Madrid called the awarding of the 28-year-old an act of 'disrespect' towards Vinicius and boycotted the ceremony. The 23-year-old also posted on X, vowing to work 10 times as hard and claiming that the footballing world is 'not ready' for his improved form.
Amid all this, a report from Relevo have claimed Los Merengues have been keen to sign Vinicius to a longer, improved contract beyond his current one that lasts till 2027.
The same report has claimed that the player is in no mood to hurry and is 'waiting for the best possible moment to sit down with the club to discuss an improvement'.
Saudi Arabia interested in bringing Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Jr. to Middle East amid contract extension uncertainty
A report from SPORT has claimed that the Saudi Arabian government is highly interested in signing Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Jr. to the Saudi Pro League.
Last summer, multiple reports had claimed that the 23-year-old received a mammoth offer from the SPL. His Ballon d'Or snub, the uncertainty around his contract extension at Real Madrid and the controversial racist incidents in Spain have only added fuel to the fiery rumors.
SPORT suggests that Saudi officials are more confident than ever about completing the signing of the Brazilian attacker next summer. They are committed to improving the overall quality of their league by signing even more top players from Europe, with Vinicius topping their transfer wishlist.
With his contract lasting until 2027 and his market value believed to be around €200 million (via Transfermarkt), Real Madrid will certainly hold the cards during negotiations. However, if the attacker himself is convinced by the Saudi Arabian project, the club will likely be powerless to prevent a transfer.
