When will Lionel Messi's Inter Miami make move to sign Neymar Jr.? Report provides update
Inter Miami are interested in reuniting Neymar with Lionel Messi, as per reports in Spain, which have also hinted at when an official approach could be made. The Brazilian star is currently with Al-Hilal and his contract is set to expire in the summer of 2025.
The 32-year-old joined the Saudi Pro League club in 2023 but has played only seven games to date due to injuries. He is currently away from the pitch, struggling with fitness issues after sustaining a hamstring injury in November.
With his contract coming to an end next summer, multiple rumors have surfaced regarding Neymar's future. The Santos graduate has also been heavily linked with a potential move to Inter Miami with hopes of a reunion with his former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez.
While Inter Miami have not confirmed their potential interest in the South American icon, they have also not completely dismissed the possibility. According to AS, the Herons’ ownership team, including managing owner Jorge Mas, are still keen on acquiring his signature amid claims that he is settled in Saudi Arabia.
The report also mentioned that Inter Miami could make a move for the former Barcelona star in January, before the 2025 MLS campaign begins, or hold on till after the FIFA Club World Cup next summer.
While nothing has been confirmed from either the club or the player, it remains to be seen if the great attacking trio 'MSN' (Messi, Suárez, and Neymar) will return together to the pitch again.
Inter Miami owner makes feelings clear about reuniting Lionel Messi and Neymar at the MLS club
Jorge Mas recently shared his thoughts on a potential reunion of Lionel Messi and Neymar at Inter Miami if the Brazillian star is open to a transfer. During an interview with GiveMeSport earlier this month, the Herons’ managing owner said the club are open to making a move for the former Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) star. Mas said (via Football Transfers):
"The key word is if he were to become available. He [Neymar] is an Al-Hilal player now. He's not available to us. I have always said we aspire to bring great players to our team. We have a lot of roster limitations and restrictions, but we have an unlimited budget."
“We are aspirational. If there is ever a chance to bring the caliber of a player like Neymar, we will not hesitate. It doesn't depend only on me. It depends on the player and the league. But yes, we aspire to build a great roster here,” he added.
Lionel Messi and the Brazil international shared the pitch alongside each other for four years at Barcelona. The duo met again at PSG and played for two years. They recorded a joint goal participation of 67 in 206 matches for the two clubs.
If the Al-Hilal star decides to join Inter Miami, he will become the only player to have played alongside Lionel Messi at three clubs.
