Rumors: Bastian Schweinsteiger on his way to Manchester United
Bastian Schweinsteiger might turn up in Manchester United’s colours next season according to Sky Sports. Sky Sports believe Bayern Munich are ready to let the Schweinsteiger go but the fee is yet to be agreed upon.
Schweinsteiger, 30, still has a year to run on his current contract, but he is looking for a move away from the German giants. Bayern would also be willing to sell the midfielder or risk losing him for free next year.
Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said on Thursday that the midfielder was “flattered” by the interest shown by United. Bayern boss Pep Guardiola also said the player’s future completely depended on him.
Schweinsteiger would be a major boost to Manchester United's squad
Schweinsteiger could be an ideal signing for Manchester United as they have only Michael Carrick, Daley Blind and Ander Herrera on their books as midfielders for the upcoming campaign where they would have to participate in the UEFA Champions League as well. Marouane Fellaini has been used by Van Gaal in a more attacking role last season.
With German newspaper Bild suggesting the transfer price to be in the range of 15m GBP, the deal might be a win-win for both clubs.
The German National team captain has already played under the mercurial Manchester United manager, Louis van Gaal, before in 2009 when the Dutchman was the boss at the Allianz arena. Schweinsteiger made his debut for Bayern Munich in 2002 and has made 500 appearances for them since then scoring 67 goals as well.
He has had a very successful career for the Bavarian club winning eight league titles and seven German Cups in his 13 years with the club. He was an integral member of the Bayern team that won the treble in 2013 and was also a part of German National team who won the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
If Manchester United do sign Schweinsteiger, the German Captain will be the first player from his country to represent the 20-time English Champions.
