Rumour: AC Milan pondering move for Chelsea’s Michael Essien
Italian media suggest that AC Milan could be set to move for Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien. Gazzetta dello Sport believe that the Italian giants could make an offer to take Essien from Stamford Bridge in January, with a loan deal providing the midfielder with respite from the Chelsea bench.
Essien has made only five Premier League appearances for Chelsea this season, with three of those coming from the bench. Amassing just 149 minutes of Premier League football this season, Essien has found himself behind Frank Lampard, Ramires, John Obi Mikel and David Luiz in the midfield pecking order under Jose Mourinho.
The Ghanaian midfielder has made 163 appearances for Chelsea since joining in 2005, but has struggled to hold down a place in the team in recent years. He spent last season on loan at Real Madrid, making 20 appearances under Mourinho, and may be set to make another temporary move away from the club in order to get first team football.
Milan are said to be interested in a loan move for Essien, as they look to improve upon their current 11th position in Serie A. Essien looks to be open to a move, with his agent recently confirming that the January transfer window could see him move away from Chelsea.
Essien has a 90% pass accuracy this season, misplacing just 13 of his 128 attempted passes.
