Rumour: Arsenal quoted £12m to prise Loic Remy away from QPR

Loic Remy

Arsenal are lining up a bid to bring Loic Remy to the Emirates Stadium in the summer, with Metro that they have slapped £12 million in front of Queens Park Rangers in the hope of securing his signature.

Arsenal have long been protracted to be suitors for the talented French forward who has impressed in his season-long loan spell with Newcastle this season, but rumours recently surfaced that Bayern Munich are also keen on Remy and wanted him to move to the Bundesliga to provide back up for the incoming Robert Lewandowski.

Harry Redknapp has claimed that there is little to no chance that Remy will remain contracted to QPR next season regardless of whether they achieve promotion back to the Premier League and has admitted he would be for sale if the price is right.

Arsenal are believed to have made striking reinforcements their priority for the season after having had to rely on Olivier Giroud as their sole option up front, with a paucity of alternatives to the Frenchman.

Yaya Sanogo is still young and relatively untested at this level and Nicklas Bendtner has been dogged by injury and disciplinary problems throughout the season, with the Dane also expected to leave the club in the summer.

Remy is thought to top Arsene Wenger’s list of strikers, but in addition to Bayern, they will also face competition from Tottenham Hotpsur and Newcastle, who wish to bring him back to St James’ Park on a permanent basis next season, but Arsenal are confident a £12m bid can secure his signature before the World Cup kicks off.

Loic Remy has won 34 of his headed duels for Newcastle this season, emerging victorious in 39% of his aerial battles.
