Rumour: Arsenal, Barcelona and Juventus to battle it out for Marc-Andre ter Stegen
According to reports, Arsenal have joined Barcelona and Juventus in the race to sign highly-rated German goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen. Ter Stegen has long been touted to replace Victor Valdes, as the Spanish stopper has decided not to extend his contract, ending at the end of the season.
Juventus have also contacted the 21-year old for a possible move to Italy with current shot-stopper Gianluigi Buffon set to turn 36 years old in January.
According to German daily Bild, Premier League giants Arsenal have entered the competition with Barcelona and Juventus to sign the Borussia Monchengladbach keeper. The Gunners have been linked with a number of goalkeepers in recent months, including Real Madrid’s legendary custodian Iker Casillas.
But now it seems Ter Stegen has fallen onto their radar, with the shot-stopper’s displays at Gladbach having been consistently impressive for some time.
Gladbach are still hopeful Ter Stegen may extend a contract which is due to expire in 2015, but the goalkeeper has three of Europe’s elite on his tail, making such a course of action appear unlikely.
