Rumour: Arsenal tracking Benfica striker Rodrigo
Arsenal have made an enquiry over the availability of Benfica striker Rodrigo according TalkSport.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has been monitoring the 22 year-old’s progress closely this season, as bringing in a new addition to his front line is a priority for The Frenchman in January.
With The North Londoners battling to end their trophy drought on three fronts, Olivier Giroud‘s fitness is likely to be found lacking at some point during the run-in and withNicklas Bendtner the only alternative, Wenger is in need of a natural forward to complement his midfield talent. Lukas Podolski is another possibility, but Wenger favours a new recruit ahead of the German.
Wenger is believed to be a fan of the Brazilian born forward’s style of play, which would easily lend itself to fit in with his own ideals and expectations of a player.
Several European clubs are also interested, most notably Zenit St Petersburg andValencia, but a move to England is thought to be the player’s preferred destination after he enjoyed a brief loan spell at Bolton in the 2010-2011 campaign.
Sources in Portugal also claim that talks between the two sides have already begun.
