Rumour: Arsenal linked with ex Chelsea prodigy - Nemanja Matic

Nemanja Matic of Benfica looks on during an SL Benfica training session

Arsenal are gunning to bring Benfica midfielder Nemanja Matic back to the Premier League this January transfer window.

The Serbian has turned many heads this season, impressing with consistent performances for Portuguese side Benfica. The box to box powerhouse has been instrumental for his club this season, managing to influence the game even from a deep lying midfield role.

The 25-year old was sold by Chelsea as part of the deal which saw David Luiz come to Stamford Bridge in 2011. The midfielder has since been in sublime form, and attracted the attention of some of the top clubs in Europe.

Arsene Wenger is looking to bring in some midfield reinforcement after several injuries to key players. The Gunners will have to match a hefty valuation of £25.7 million if they are to land their target. However, cash strapped Benfica might accept a lower fee in order to ease their financial woes.

The Emirates outfit have not had a better chance to win the Premier League, as they top the league after 20 games played.
