Rumour: Arsenal and Liverpool eye £28m Benfica striker Rodrigo Moreno

Rodrigo Moreno

Arsenal have set their sights on a summer move for for Benfica starlet Rodrigo Moreno and are prepared to pay the big money to land him ahead of Inter Milan, with Liverpool also reported to be interested.

According to the Mirror, Inter are keen on signing the Spanish striker at the end of the season having had fresh finances injected into the club by new owner Erick Thohir and would be part of their summer rebuild that already has confirmed Nemanja Vidic’s arrival from Manchester United on a free transfer.

Arsenal are however desperate to land a proven goalscorer to their ranks in the summer after seeing their title challenge tail off in the final couple of months of the season, with the striking position a constant source of displeasure for Gunners’ fans.

Olivier Giroud has been left as the only senior striker at the Emirates ahead of untested Yaya Sanogo and out of favour Nicklaus Bendtner, and the Frenchman has cut a frustrated figure in the second half of the season following a poor run of form.

Wenger has made forwards his priority for any summer spending and with pressure on him to recruit high-class players, he is expected to spend big money on a striker in the summer.

Benfica have quoted any interested parties a £28million fee to land the former Bolton loanee, and while Inter remain favourites due to their new-found financial clout, Wenger is determined to rival them to bring the forward to North London.

Rodrigo Moreno has scored three goals in four Europa League appearances, scoring with 30% of his shots on goal.
