Rumour: Arsenal turn attention to Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin
Arsenal have turned their attentions to Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin after Paris Saint-Germain’s Blaise Matuidi turned down their advances, according to Goal.
Schneiderlin is yet to earn a call-up to the French national team but has earned plaudits all around England for his numerous classy performances.
With Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini aging, Wenger sees Schneiderlin as a replacement and the Frenchman could grow to become a key figure in their midfield.
The Gunners have been quoted a price of £15 million should they wish to sign Schneiderlin. He is another of Southampton’s highly-rated young talents and could leave the club if Arsenal place the desired bid in before the January transfer window closes tomorrow night.
Schneiderlin, who has established himself as one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League, signed a new contract with the Saints in February 2013 that runs until the summer of 2017.
The Frenchman signed for the club in 2008 and has been a key figure in their resurgence from English football’s third division to the Premier League.
He has also helped the south coast club sustain their status as a top flight side, but at 24, he could move onto bigger and better things with his prime just around the corner.
