North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are reportedly set to go head-to-head this summer, in order to land David Marshall from Cardiff City, as they both look to bolster their goalkeeping options.

Spurs have been linked with a double swoop for Marshall and Steven Caulker as they look to attend to their squad following a disappointing campaign that has seen them once again fail to overtake their local rivals and miss out on the Champions League.

With Hugo Lloris’ future at White Hart Lane by no means certain, with Paris St Germain trailing the French shot-stopper, Spurs are examining other options and is believed that Marshall’s performances this season have caught their eye, with the Scottish international having been one of few Cardiff players to emerge from this season with any credit.

They will, however, have to go up against north London neighbours Arsenal in order to get their man, , according to the Daily Express, with Arsene Wenger having identified Marshall as the perfect man to provide competition for Wojciech Szczesny next season.

Current back-up ‘keeper Lukasz Fabianski has indicated his desire to quit the Emirates at the end of the season after growing tired of his lack of first-team opportunities and with Wenger still believing in a two-keeper system to cope with the demands of four competitions, Marshall is his preferred choice to go toe-to-toe with Szczesny for a place in the starting XI.
