Arsenal star unwilling to take pay-cut amid links to rival PL club - Reports

Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah is reportedly not willing to take a pay-cut to join Nottingham Forest. The 25-year-old has been at the Emirates since the 2017-18 season.

However, he has struggled to make a significant impact since his first-team debut in the 2017-18 season. In 168 games across competitions, he has registered 38 goals and seven assists. That includes six goals in 37 outings across competitions last season.

Despite being contracted to the Emirates till 2027, Nketiah is seemingly set to leave this summer, with Forest reportedly hot on his heels. However, as per talkSPORY (via Daily AFC), he's unwilling to lower his £120,000 weekly wages, which means Forest need to make him their highest-paid player to sign Nketiah.

Nketiah's returns in the Premier League have been especially underwhelming, striking just nine times in a combined 57 outings. Mikel Arteta's side finished second in both seasons to Manchester City.

They came close to ending their 20-year league title drought last season, as they kept alive the title race till the final day. However, Pep Guardiola's side avoided defeat to West Ham United at home to create English football history - becoming the first team to win four straight league titles and six in seven years.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta expressed his happiness after his team saw off Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0 in their Premier League opener at home last weekend.

Kai Havertz was the star of the show with a goal and an assist, opening the scoring inside 25 minutes at the Emirates before setting up Bukayo Saka in the 74th.

Ruing the opportuntiies of not closing the game off earlier, the Gunners boss said (as per BBC Sport)

"Especially the beginning of the match and in the first half where we were really good, really aggressive a lot of purpose to attack, very fats, a lot threat in the box.
"We should have scored two or three, and then the game would have been different. In the second half, (there were) moments where we became a bit sloppy."

He added:

"At 1-0 it was not enough. We had enough chances in the first half to finish the game but we didn't. Overall very happy."

The Gunners next travel to Aston Villa on Saturday (August 24). Unai Emery's side are coming off a 2-1 opening-day win at West Ham United.
