Arsenal suffer blow as club have no plans to sell 14-goal star in winter - Reports
Arsenal have reportedly suffered a major blow in their pursuit of Getafe striker Borja Mayoral. As per Caught Offside via Spanish outlet AS, the La Liga club have no intention of letting their star attacker leave in the middle of the season.
Mayoral emerged as a target for Arsenal following their recent scoring struggles. However, they might have to look elsewhere, with Jose Bordalas' side unwilling to part ways with the striker.
Borja Mayoral has been in scintillating form this season and is just one goal behind Jude Bellingham in the race for the La Liga Golden Boot. The Spaniard has scored 14 goals and provided one assist in 22 games across competitions.
Aged 26, the former Spain under-21 international is living up to his early promise and boasts an all-round skillset. He's blessed with a six-foot frame, is good on the ball and also quick off the mark.
Mayoral came through the ranks at Real Madrid and was very highly rated but couldn't break into their first team. After 33 appearances for his boyhood club and four loan spells away, he joined Getafe permanently in 2023.
Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta's Gunners have struggled for goals, especially in the last few weeks, which has seen them cede ground in the title race. Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah have just scored eight league goals between them.
Arsenal urged to make move for Dominic Solanke
Pundit Chris Sutton has urged Arsenal to make a move for red-hot Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke.
He also expressed his disbelief at the fact that the former Chelsea and Liverpool striker is yet to attract any offer from the Gunners. Sutton told The Daily Mail’s It’s All Kicking Off podcast (as quoted by HITC Sport):
“I know Arsenal have got this FFP issue and what have you, whether they can spend big money, But I’m surprised Arsenal haven’t made some sort of move for him.”
Solanke has been excellent for Bournemouth this campaign, who have been playing exceptional football under Andoni Iraola.
The 26-year-old is just behind Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah in the race for the Premier League Golden Boot, with 12 strikes.
