Barcelona left sweating over key player's fitness amid fresh ankle injury: Reports
As per Mundo Deportivo (via GOAL), Barcelona are worried about Lamine Yamal's fitness following Barcelona's 1-0 La Liga home defeat to Leganes on Sunday (December 15). Yamal was roughly tackled in the 16th minute and reportedly twisted his ankle.
After receiving medical attention, the youngster continued playing. In the 75th minute, thugh, Yamal couldn't continue and was replaced by Gavi. According to Diario AS (via GOAL), the youngster is scheduled for some medical tests on Monday (December 16), to determine the extent of his injury.
Yamal's latest suspected syndesmosis injury could be linked to the previous ankle problem he had suffered a few weeks ago. Barcelona will hope that Yamal's injury isn't a severe one due to his importance in the starting XI.
In 21 appearances this season, he has scored six goals and registered 12 assists across competitions. Yamal's potential absence in attack could be a big blow for boss Hansi Flick. The Blaugrana take on Atletico Madrid in their next league game on Saturday (December 21).
Flick's side are first, having registered 38 points from 18 games this season, ahead of Atletico Madrid - who have a game in hand - on goal difference.
Eric Garcia could reportedly leave Barcelona in January
Eric Garcia could leave the Camp Nou in the upcoming January transfer window as per Matte Moretto (via Managing Barca on X). Garcia joined the Blaugrana as a free agent in 2021 following a stint with Manchester City.
After failing to secure a regular spot in Barca's starting XI, he was sent on loan to Girona in September 2023. The Spaniard returned to the Camp Nou this summer, but he's reportedly set to leave.
Garcia has registered 12 appearances for the Blaugrana this season, and there are several centre-backs ahead of him in the pecking order. Barca's pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen's Jonathan Tah could also be a reason why Garcia could be considering his future at the club.
However, Garcia is contracted at the Camp Nou till 2026, which suggests that the Blaugrana could look to make a profit from his potential sale.
