Barcelona offered chance to sign Bundesliga star as potential alternative for top target Nico Williams - Reports
Barcelona have reportedly been offered the opportunity to snap up Bayern Munich attacker Kingsley Coman. Barca have been in pursuit of their top transfer target, Nico Williams of Athletic Bilbao.
The 22-year-old winger is coming off a superb campaign for Bilbao, contributing eight goals and 19 assists in 37 games across competitions. That includes three goals and five assists in six games in their triumphant Copa del Rey campaign.
Despite being contracted to the San Mames till 2027, the Euro 2024 winner has attracted the attention of top clubs from across the continent, one of them being the Blaugrana. However, SPORT (as per Barca Blaugranes) has reported that the player is set to stay at the club, having recently resumed training.
While Barcelona remain optimistic of their chances of snapping up Williams, Bayern winger Coman has been 'offered' to the La Liga side, as per Kerry Hau via Reshad Rahman.
New Barca boss Hansi Flick - who managed Coman at Bayern - is apparently keen to reunite with the Frenchman at the Camp Nou, Rahman adds.
Coman is coming off a 2-1 loss with France to eventual champions Spain in the Euro 2024 semi-final last month, having played just 15 minutes across six games in the quadrennial competition.
How did Barcelona target Kingsley Coman fare last season?
Barcelona target Kingsley Coman is coming off an injury-plagued 2023-24 campaign with Bayern Munich. In 27 games across competitions, the 28-year-old contributed five goals and two assists.
Six of those goal contributions - three goals and as many assists - came in 17 games in the Bundesliga, where Bayern's 11-year Bundesliga stranglehold came to an end.
He also scored twice in seven games in the UEFA Champions League - where Thomas Tuchel's side lost 3-2 on aggregate to eventual winners Real Madrid in the semi-finals.
Having lost early in the DFB-Pokal and losing the DFL Super Cup to Leipzig, it marked Bayern's first trophyless campaign in 12 years as Tuchel made way for Vincent Kompany.
Meanwhile, Coman missed a whopping 21 games due to various injuries, like adductor, knee medial ligament tear and muscular. Overall, the Barcelona target has an impressive haul of 63 goals and 66 assists in 294 games across competitions for Bayern since arriving on a free transfer in the summer of 2014.
The Frenchman has won eight consecutive Bundesliga titles with Bayern and one UEFA Champions League - as part of a continental treble in the 2019-20 COVID-19-affected season.
