Barcelona's first bid for Euro 2024 winner rejected by Bundesliga club - Reports
Barcelona have reportedly had their first bid for Euro 2024-winning Spain striker Dani Olmo rejected by RB Leipzig. The 26-year-old played a starring role in his team's European Championship triumph.
Olmo contributed three goals and two assists in six games as La Roja beat England 2-1 to win a record fourth Euros titles. All three goals and two of the assists came in the knockouts.
The 26-year-old is coming off a decent 2023-24 campaign with Leipzig, bagging eight goals and five assists in 25 games of an injury-ravaged season. All five assists and four of those goals came in 21 outings in the Bundesliga, where Leipzig finished fourth.
Despite Olmo contracted with the Bundesliga side till 2026, Barca made a bid for him - as per Reshad Rahman (via Philipphinze24) - but it was turned down.
The report doesn't mention how much Barca mid for the striker and what Leipzig are looking for. Transfermarkt values Olmo at €60 million, but the Bundesliga side could want more following the striker's exploits at Euro 2024, which could be problematic for cash-strapped Barca.
How many Barcelona players featured in Spain's Euro 2024-winning squad?
Barcelona had four players in Spain's victorious Euro 2024 squad. The quartet comprised midfield sensation Lamine Yamal, Pedri, Ferran Torres and Fermin Lopez.
With Real Madrid featuring Dani Carvajal, Nacho and Joselu, the two Spanish heavyweights joined Bayern Munich (19) as the club with the most European Championship winners.
Coming back to the Barcelona quartet Yamal arguably shone the brightest, with the 17-year-old contributing a goal and four assists in six games, breaking numerous Euro records in the process.
The youngest to appear in a major tournament semi-final or final, Yamal is also the youngest to score (2-1 win over France in the semis). Of course, he's also the youngest player to win the European Championship or win a major tournament, doing so a day after turning 17.
