Barcelona suffer fresh setback as 24-year-old star ruled out for 7-8 weeks with muscle injury: Reports
Barcelona attacker Ferran Torres will be reportedly out of action for a few weeks due to an injury sustained in the 3-0 La Liga win at Alaves on Sunday (October 6).
Torres started at the Mendizorroza but came off after just six minutes, with immediate reports suggesting a thigh injury. Barca have now confirmed the same on their website, posting (as per Barca Universal):
“Tests carried out on the first team player Ferran Torres confirm that he has an injury to the biceps femoris muscle in his right thigh. His return to training will be dependent on his recovery"
While it was initially expected that Torres would be out for three to four weeks, RAC1 (via Barca Universal) has reported that the attacker is set to miss seven to eight weeks of action.
The 24-year-old hasn't had the best of starts to the season, though, registering a goal and two assists in 10 games across competitions. All those goal contributions have come in the league, where Flick's side are three points clear of second-placed holders Real Madrid (21) after nine rounds of matches.
Meanwhile, in the aforementioned Alaves game, striker Robert Lewandowski starred with a first-half hat-trick. The 36-year-old opened the scoring in the seventh minute before adding further strikes in the 22nd and 32nd minutes respectively to end the game as a contest.
What's next for Barcelona?
Barcelona have made a superb start to the season - especially in La Liga - under new boss Hansi Flick, who arrived in the summer to replace the legendary Xavier Hernandez.
The Blaugrana have been on a tear in the league - winning eight of their nine games - including the first seven, marking one of their best starts to a La Liga campaign in recent memory.
Flick's side saw their winning league run snapped in a 4-2 loss at Osasuna but bounced back with an emphatic win at Alaves last weekend. Their only other loss this season came in their UEFA Champions League opener - a 2-1 loss at AS Monaco - before they thumped BSC Young Boys 5-0 at home.
The Blaugrana next take on Sevilla at home in La Liga on October 20 after the international break. Flick's side have been boosted by former Bayern Munich marksman Lewandowski's stellar form, with the Pole blazing his way to 12 goals and two assists in 11 games across competitions.
