Rumour: Barcelona to bid for David Luiz in the summer

David Luiz lined up as Puyol replacement?

Barcelona are said to have renewed their interest in signing Chelsea defender David Luiz as a possible replacement for Carles Puyol, who confirmed that he will be leaving Barcelona at the end of the season.

Barcelona’s interest in Luiz is nothing new. They had a bid for him rejected last summer with Jose Mourinho insisting that the Brazilian is not for sale at any cost. The bid however was said to be in the region of £20m while it was rumoured that Chelsea had demanded at least £50m for the Spanish giants to have any chance of signing their player.

David Luiz is considered to be a future captain of Chelsea. He is a veratile player who can play as a centre back and a defensive midfielder. He was signed by Carlo Ancelotti in January 2011 for £21.5 + Matic and for Barcelona to have any chance of signing him, the bid should be more than £30m. But, according to Jason Burt from the The Telegraph, the bid this time around will be of £25m.

Luiz has constantly said that he has no intentions of leaving The Blues and Jose Mourinho might not been keen on letting go of the Brazilian despite the signing of Kurt Zouma. Barcelona are not the only club interested in signing the Brazilian with Bayern Munich and PSG also said to be eyeing the defender.
