Rumour: Bayern Munich to battle with Manchester United for Ilkay Gundogan
Manchester United could be set for further transfer frustration as Bayern Munich look set to rival them for Ilkay Gundogan in the summer, according to the Metro.
The Borussia Dortmund midfielder has barely featured this season due to injuries but that has not stopped the interest in him and the speculation surrounding his future after a string of wonderful performances last season in the Champions League and Bundesliga.
It’s expected that United and Real Madrid may attempt to test Dortmund’s resolve to hang on to Gundogan at the end of the season, but reports in Germany claim Bayern are also hovering.
This would be a serious blow to David Moyes’ chances of landing the 23-year-old, having also missed out on Thiago Alcantara last summer to the Bundesliga champions.
United are also interested in Bayern midfielder Toni Kroos and are prepared to pay him around £250,000 if reports are to be believed. His future has been uncertain since mid-January when it was rumoured that he had fallen out with Pep Guardiola.
Nothing materialised from the speculation but it is thought that David Moyes will return for Kroos in the summer when he is, apparently, handed a huge transfer budget to improve the squad.
