Rumour: Bayern Munich join race to sign David Luiz
According to reports in Portugal, Bayern Munich have “joined the race” to sign Chelsea’s central defender David Luiz, according to The Metro.
Luiz has found himself out of favour under Jose Mourinho this season after being one of Rafael Benitez’s main players last season.
After reportedly turning down a move to Barcelona in the summer, it is thought that former-Barca manager Pep Guardiola is now looking at bringing the Brazilian defender to Munich, according to A Bola.
Should another club come calling in January, Luiz may seriously consider leaving Stamford Bridge as Gary Cahill and John Terry have formed a formidable partnership under Mourinho.
With the World Cup in Luiz’s home country just around the corner, he may be forced into leaving Chelsea to guarantee his spot in the Brazil squad.
Whether Chelsea will want to let Luiz go is another matter, though, as there is not a lot of cover in central defence for the Blues.
But it seems under Jose Mourinho, Luiz – once regarded as a future Chelsea captain – will have a tough time regaining a regular place in the Blues’ starting XI.
