Rumour: Chelsea bid £25 million for former player Nemanja Matic

Reports coming out of the United Kingdom suggest, Chelsea have bid a whopping £25 million to land Benfica player Nemanja Matic. This comes after the London club were reportedly snubbed in their attempt to land primary target Fredy Guarin from Inter Milan.

The Serbian has turned many heads this season, impressing with consistent performances for the Portuguese outfit. The box to box powerhouse has been immense for his club this season, managing to influence the game even from a deep lying midfield role.

The 25-year old was sold by Chelsea as part of the deal which saw David Luiz come to Stamford Bridge in 2011. However, the club is now desperate to land their ex player as they look to replace Frank Lampard, John Obi Mikel and Michael Essien in the center of the park alongside Ramires.

The £25 million bid might well be enough to lure cash strapped Benfica into selling their star this winter. Chelsea look favorites to see off strong competition from Arsenal and Manchester United, and bolster their midfield ranks.
