Rumour: Chelsea line up stunning moves for Luke Shaw and Edinson Cavani

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is looking to tie up his summer transfer business early on, with The Mirror reporting that he is to make a double transfer swoop before the World Cup gets underway in June. He is reportedly looking to secure deals for Southampton left back Luke Shaw and Paris Saint Germain attacker Edinson Cavani before the World Cup, in a double transfer that will make up the bulk of his summer business.

The Blues have long been linked with a move for Shaw, who at just 18 is one of English football’s hottest young properties. The left back has made 23 league appearnaces for the Saints this season and is seen as a long term successor to Ashley Cole in the Chelsea side. Shaw has also reportedly interested Manchester United, but as a childhood fan of the Stamford Bridge club would likely pick Chelsea over United if given the choice.

Southampton are under no immediate pressure to sell Shaw, who signed a five year contract last summer, and would demand a fee befitting of his long term potential. Owner Katharina Liebherr has frequently asserted that the club’s prized assets are not for sale, but the south coast side may find it harder to stand in Shaw’s way should a concrete offer come in from a title-challenging side.

Uruguayan attacker Cavani is also said to be a Chelsea target, despite only joining his current side last year. He moved from Napoli in a £55 million deal but is said to have grown frustrated at playing second fiddle to PSG’s talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic and may be receptive to a move to lead the line at Stamford Bridge.

Cavani has taken 67 shots on goal in Ligue 1 this season, 22 more than Chelsea’s most shot hungry striker Samuel Eto’o (45)
