Rumour: David Luiz confirms he has signed a five-year deal with PSG

David Luiz: On his way to the French Capital?

David Luiz has confirmed that he has signed a five-year deal with Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain, ending his three-year stay at Chelsea.

Luiz, 27, is currently with the Brazilian national team preparing for the World Cup which they kick-off tomorrow night against Croatia. The deal to move to PSG was all but confirmed a couple of weeks ago when all was agreed between the two parties as Chelsea decided to sell the defender for around £40 million, making him the most expensive defender in history.

After finally confirming his future after months of speculation and uncertainty at Chelsea where he was constantly left on the bench and taken out of the side by his manager, Jose Mourinho, Luiz can now settle knowing for the next five years, he is contracted to PSG.

He is now ready to put that in the back of his mind and start focusing on the World Cup and trying to win his country’s sixth title.

“I have just signed a deal with PSG for five years,” he told Globo when asked if he intends to one day play in Brazil’s top flight.

“I left for Europe when I was 18, I skipped a few steps… We’ll see. What we plan today may not be right tomorrow.”

The Selecao’s vice-captain also spoke of the demonstrations seen across the country in protest of public spending for the World Cup.

“As long as the demonstrations happen peacefully, I respect them. I do not want to see violence,” he said.

“I do not like the vision that Europeans have about our country, that Brazil is bad. Brazil has many things to be great.”
