[caption id="attachment_2213634" align="aligncenter" width="630"] David Villa reportedly set to join New York City FC[/caption] David Villa is reportedly set to join New York City FC in the MLS in the United States. Villa, who played a crucial role in Atletico Madrid's hugely successful campaign in the 2013-14 season is out of contract at the end of next month, but has a player option for next year on his contract. It is expected that he will reject it and sign a 3 year deal with the MLS club.

The news was reported by Spanish radio station Cadene Cope.

New York City FC is the newest MLS franchise and is owned by Manchester City and will be playing their home games in the yankee stadium. Villa moved to Atletico Madrid from Barcelona last summer, and is being persuaded by Manchester City directors, Txiki Bergeristain and Ferran Soriano to consider signing for the MLS franchise. Incidentally, Villa was signed for Barcelona by both Bergeristain and Soriano only. The rumor was also tweeted by the official twitter account of the MLS.
