Rumour: Dimitar Berbatov to undergo medical at Monaco as Tottenham miss out
In a dramatic turn of events at Craven Cottage, it looks as though want-away Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov is set to seal a move to Ligue 1 side AS Monaco and snub his former side Spurs.
Perennially linked with a return to Tottenham, the 33-year-old had been given permission to speak with the French club. After talks with the Ligue 1 outfit, the striker has flown to the principality and is undergoing a medical as we speak.
The deal should come as a blow to Spurs, who were looking for a top-class striker. Spurs were of the opinion that the Bulgarian would move to the Lane, with Lewis Holtby going the other way.
However, although Holtby has completed his loan to the London club for the rest of the season, it looks as though Berbatov isn’t making the trip the other way.
According to Holtby’s agent Marcus Noack, “Fulham has put much effort into Lewis.” And also added that “it is a very well-run club with an excellent manager, René Meulensteen.”
With Fulham on the verge of completing a deal for Olympiakos striker Kostas Mitroglu, the London side were more than happy to let the Bulgarian go.
