Rumour: Everton look at Danny Welbeck as a replacement for Romelu Lukaku
Everton are interested in Manchester United youth academy product Danny Welbeck, amid reports of the Englishman’s discontent with his role at Old Trafford.
With Romelu Lukaku having returned back to Chelsea, the Toffees are eager to replace the 15 goals and 6 assists notched up by the Belgian frontman during his season at Goodison Park.
The move certainly seems one that would appeal to a frustrated Welbeck. With Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney further up the pecking order, the 22-year-old’s hopes of being taken off the wing and deployed centrally by incoming manager Louis van Gaal appear slim.
Goal also suggested that the Man United striker could be used as makeweight in possible move for Everton wonderkid Ross Barkley, though Roberto Martinez has previously insisted the Liverpudlian will not be sold, but rather continue his development on Merseyside.
Another Manchester United play on whose future Louis van Gaal will have the final say is Anderson, after it recently emerged that Fiorentina are unwilling to make the Brazilian midfielders loan move a permanent one.
