Rumour: Fernando Torres close to joining AC Milan as Chelsea look at 3 replacements
Fernando Torres is set to leave Stamford Bridge to join Italian giants AC Milan even as Chelsea are racing against time to sign Roma striker Mattia Destro. The Spaniard’s representatives are scheduled to meet Chelsea to work out the terms for his exit.
The London club want a permanent transfer which would free up around £175,000-a-week in wages. The World Cup winner still has 2 years left on his contract and thus is pushing for a severance package to facilitate his exit.
Mourinho is said to have identified the Roma forward as his replacement though the Italian club are reluctant to sell so late in the window. This will give the Rome club little or no time to replace the Italian.
If the 23-year-old’s move cannot be secured, Mourinho might turn his attention to Porto’s Jackson Martinez or QPR’s Loic Remy.
Whoever is signed will have to be third-choice behind Diego Costa who suffered a hamstring injury earlier this week and Didier Drogba.
