Rumour: Fiorentina emerge favourites to land Chelsea's Marko Marin
Italian Serie A side Fiorentina look favourites to land Chelsea’s German international midfielder, Marko Marin on loan, according to reports in Italy.
The deal is rumoured to also have a clause to make the move a permanent one at the end of the season for a price set at €5 million.
Marin arrived at Chelsea in 2012 after putting pen to paper on a five year deal from Werder Bremen. The move was set to be a logical next step for the highly rated mid-fielder to continue his upward career trajectory.
However, the diminutive German midfielder has failed to make a mark on the Premier League. In two years at Stamford Bridge the German international has made only six starts for Chelsea in all competitions.
After suffering from niggling injuries and a lack of playing time in his first season for the Blues, Marin was subsequently sent on loan to La Liga side Sevilla last season.
Marin enjoyed team success with Sevilla last season, winning the Europa League, but on an individual front, his successes remained limited. The attacking midfielder scored only two goals for the Andalusian club in only 14 starts.
The German international now returns to Stamford Bridge to an even more crowded midfield. The centre of the park, which couldn’t accommodate Juan Mata now has Cesc Fabregas, Oscar and the emerging Marco van Ginkel as the main playmakers that Jose Mourinho is likely to use.
Thus, a move away from London for the German won’t surprise anyone. Marin also fits into the scheme of things at Fiorentina, whose transfer trends of picking player whose career has been side-tracked in recent times seem to match with the current situation of the German.
