How much is Rodri set to earn at Manchester City? Reports emerge that PL champions set to offer Spaniard new mega deal
Manchester City are reportedly looking to offer midfielder Rodri a mega deal. The Spaniard has been a key player for the reigning Premier League champions since arriving in the summer of 2019.
Rodri, 28, has contributed 26 goals and 30 assists in 257 appearances across competitions since arriving from Atletico Madrid five years ago. His existing deal at the Etihad runs till 2027, but City are working to offer him a new deal with improved pay following his key role in Spain's Euro 2024 triumph in Germany last month.
To keep prospective suitors, especially Real Madrid, at bay, City are looking to make Rodri their highest-paid player with wages of £375,000 per week, as reported by the Daily Sun.
However, that would require a rejig of the club's wage structure, with Kevin De Bruyne's wages likely to be cut, but the Belgian would be 'compensated' with 'lucrative' bonuses in a proposed new deal.
Notably, Dani Carvajal tried to 'recruit' his compatriot to Los Blancos during Euro 2024, telling COPE:
"I tell him: 'Leave Manchester, there is no sun there, and come to Madrid. We need you. And what's more, you're from Madrid.
"He says he has a contract, that there aren't release clauses (in England). ... He gives me the runaround basically, but he would be the perfect signing, no doubt. He is Spanish, from Madrid ... He would fit in perfectly."
Rodri has won 11 titles at the Etihad, including four (consecutive) Premier League titles and one UEFA Champions League.
How did Rodri fare for Manchester City last season?
Rodri had a stellar 2023-24 season with Manchester City. In 50 games across competitions, he registered nine goals and 14 assists as Pep Guardiola's side won three of six competitions they entered.
Most of the Spaniard's goal contributions - eight goals and nine assists in 34 games - came in the league, where City created history by becoming the first team to win four straight Premier League titles. Guardiola's side are also the first English team to win six league titles in seven years.
In the UEFA Champions League, Rodri contributed a goal and three assists in eight games as the holders lost to eventual champions Real Madrid in the quarter-final on penalties.
City won their first UEFA Super Cup (beating Sevilla) and FIFA Club World Cup (beating Fluminense) but lost to Manchester United in the FA Cup final.
