Rumour: Juventus and Wolfsburg fight it out for Karim Benzema

Benzema on his way out of Madrid?

Juventus are interested in signing Karim Benzema from Real Madrid this summer following Alvaro Moarata’s return to Bernabeu. The 23-year-old striker rejoined his former club after a bright spell in Serie A and according to latest reports, Madrid are keen to keep him with the club next season.

That decision has put Benzema’s immediate future under a lot of question marks which Juventus are hoping to take advantage of. According to CalcioMercato, Juventus want to bring Benzema as Morata’s replacement and are prepared to offer as much as €30m.

Madrid have rejected their initial €30m approach, but Los Blancos remain open to offers to cash-in on their French superstar. Benzema has been a steady figure in Madrid’s attack over the years which has seen him score over 150 goals in just 200+ games for Real Madrid. This kind of a track record will attract Juventus in making a revised offer for Benzema in coming weeks.

Simone Zaza is nearing a move to Wolfsburg in a reported €30m deal which would make Juventus cash rich to meet Real Madrid’s €40m valuation for Benzema, although, Die Wolf are also keeping a tab on Benzema and could turn their attentions there once Andre Schrulle’s transfer to Borussia Dortmund becomes official.

Although Benzema’s off-the-field antics saw him miss the Euro 2016, but he remains a potent striker on the field and is one of the most lethal goal scorers of the 21st century.

Elsewhere Paul Pogba’s sale to Manchester Unite could even open the doors for Juve to press forward with a move for either Edinson Cavani or Gonzalo Higuain. Manager Massimiliano Allegri is keen to add to his strike force this summer which already consists of Mario Mandzukic and Paulo Dybala.

Juventus previously tried to sign Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal but Gunners simply refused to let the Chilean ace leave even after a reported €35m offer from the Serie A Champions. Despite winning the Serie A title yet again, Juve need to bring in new players as they undergo a summer of change.

Regardless of Miralem Pjanic’s signing, Morata’s sale has left a void to fill for Juventus which they are expected to complete in coming with Benzema being the most realistic option.
