Rumour: Liverpool planning swoop for Manchester United target Nicolas Gaitan
Liverpool are rumored to be in pursuit of long term Manchester United target, Benfica’s Nicolas Gaitan, and could move for him in the summer.
The Merseyside club have missed out on high profile targets like Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Willian and Mohamed Salah due to their inability to offer the players Champions League football last season.
However, with the Reds in pole position to finish in the top four in the Premier League this season, they will prove to be an attractive destination for talented in-demand players.
Gaitan has gone from strength to strength at Benfica since his move from Boca Juniors in 2010. The attacking midfielder has scored 23 goals and provided 47 assists in 163 appearances for the club so far.
Brendan Rodgers’ scouts have been tracking the progress of the 26-year old this season, and is touted to be a potential target come end of the season.
The Red Devils, since Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign, have been firm admirers of the coveted Argentinian, but have not made a formal offer for the player yet. With Champions League football to offer, Liverpool could be front runners for the dimunitive playmaker.
