Manchester City eye move for goalkeeper who was linked with Chelsea and Manchester United - Reports
Manchester City have reportedly turned their attention to Diogo Costa who was the subject of interest for Chelsea and Manchester United. The Cityzens are interested to sign the Portuguese goalkeeper, as per Football Insider. Costa, 25, is contracted with Porto till 2027.
Pep Guardiola's side are expected to see outgoings in their goalkeeper department. Ederson might be leaving, as he's linked with Paris Saint-Germain and Saudi Pro League clubs. Stefan Ortega is also expected to leave the Etihad.
City will be keen on signing a long-term replacement if Ederson leaves. Costa could be a decent alternative, as he has great awareness around his goal. Moreover, he's a spot-kick expert, showing glimpses at the Euros for Portugal.
There are technical issues with his shot-stopping, but at 25, if he makes a move to a club of City's stature, he could become a better version of himself, but Chelsea and United were also in his fray While Chelsea are relying on Robert Sanchez, United have Andre Onana. Both clubs have decent backups to their first-choice custodians as well.
At Chelsea, Filip Jorgensen has been used quite often by Enzo Maresca, but United have mostly delpoyed Onana, with Altay Bayindir playing just once this season.
Chelsea and Manchester United's season so far
Chelsea, under new manager Enzo Maresca, have enjoyed a good start to their Premier League season. They are fourth with 14 points from seven games, losing once.
In the Carabao Cup, they beat League Two side Barrow AFC 5-0. Maresca's side beat Gent 4-2 in their UEFA Europa Conference League opener.
However, Erik ten Hag's Manchester United are 14th in the Premier League after seven games. Having won twice and losing thrice, results and performances need to improve soon as the Dutchman faces the heat.
While United have been dominant in the Carabao Cup (7-0 win over Barnsley), they have struggled in the UEFA Europa League, drawing with FC Twente (1-1 home) and FC Porto (3-3 away), where Harry Maguire scored a late equaliser.
