Rumour: Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea all interested in Luke Shaw

Luke Shaw

Cash-rich Manchester City have entered the race to sign talented Southampton left-back Luke Shaw, with manager Manuel Pellegrini wanting to strengthen his options at the back, according to latest reports.

Chelsea and Manchester United are also interested in signing the 18-year old, with Chelsea in pole position, as the defender has been a boyhood fan of the club, and due to the close proximity of Chelsea’s training ground to where his parents live.

However, with first choice left-back Gael Clichy having lost his starting berth to Aleksandar Kolarov, and the continued doubts over the Serbian’s defensive abilities, City are said to be very interested to splash the cash on Shaw, who not only represents an attractive option, but also a long-term investment.

David Moyes is also said to be very keen on signing the left back, with Patrice Evra ageing and Alexander Buttner having failed to impress. But it seems the current champions have a very slim chance of getting this prized asset.

Patrice Evra also has an option to extend his Old Trafford contract by a year, although whether he would agree to be the club’s second choice left-back remains to be seen. But given his popularity among team-mates and his affection towards the club, it is a distinct possibility.
