Manchester City set to make surprise loan move to sign France star - Reports
Manchester City are reportedly interested in Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman. The Cityzens are on the verge of losing striker Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid. While Coman isn’t a like-for-like replacement for the Argentine, he brings rich experience and could be a strategically beneficial signing.
According to Bild, City have been interested in Coman for a while. Given the Frenchman's salary demands of €20 million per year, Bayern are seeking a prospective club willing to cover a substantial portion of his wages. The Cityzens could capitalize with a potential loan offer with an option to buy.
Former Bayern president Uli Hoeness has weighed in on the matter. He said (via GOAL):
There is a resolution from the supervisory board that says: We have spent €125m (£107m/$136.5m), and if new players come after that, we must first sell. I communicated that. And it is not my final word, but of the supervisory board as a whole."
The Bavarians are known for their pragmatic financial conduct. At the moment, Manchester City and Bayern are yet to enter into any concrete talks about Coman, so it remains uncertain to what extent they would be prepared to cover Coman's wages.
Apart from Coman’s salary demands, it seems like the 28-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at the Allianz Arena following the arrival of Michael Olise. The French winger has won at least one title in every single season of his career, apart from the last.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola keeps door open for England job?
Pep Guardiola hasn't ruled out the possibility of taking up the England job amid reports linking him to manage the Three Lions.
Since Gareth Southgate stepped down following England’s 2-1 defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 final, the Manchester City boss has been linked to the job, with Wanye Rooney saying that he’d like Guardiola to take it up.
Meanwhile, the England FA announced Lee Carsley as the interim manager, ahead of the 2024–25 UEFA Nations League campaign. While the board looks for a long-term successor, Guardiola, whose contract with City expires in 2025, hasn't closed down the possibility of managing England. He said via The Sun:
“I have to decide what I want to do in my life. If I want to continue here, take a break, train national teams or not - many things.
He added;
“Right now, I am here, and as you arrive at the competition, my energy rises again, so I am fully excited for the season because I see things that I like. We will see, it’s a new challenge if we are able to break our own records. Last season we broke the record and never has it been done before.
Manchester City play Manchester United in the FA Community Shield on Saturday (August 10).
