Rumour: Manchester United emerge as favourites for Enzo Perez's signature
Manchester United are said to be in pole position to sign Benfica’s Argentine star Enzo Perez.
Valencia president owner Peter Lim looks to have put his plans on bringing Perez to the Mestalla on the backburner after the La Liga outfit had initially emerged as the favourites for the Argentine’s signature. That could have potentially been Valencia’s second capture of the season from the Estádio da Luz. Another long-time Manchester United target and Perez’s countryman Nicolas Gaitan has also been strongly rumoured to become one of the first signings for Los Che this January.
The Red Devils have been long time admirers of the tricky ball carrier and now look set to make a bid for the player with reports suggesting that Ed Woodward and co. are ready to splash anywhere near £25 million.
The South American has been in prime form this season. While his numbers don’t look that great, his impressive showings have been a huge reason why Benfica now sit at the top of the Portuguese Primera Liga.
Manchester United continue to be linked with a number of central midfielders with Kevin Strootman and Enzo Perez heading the list at the moment. With Strootman being slowly re-integrated into the scheme of things at Roma after coming back from a long injury lay-off, the 28-year old box-to-box tenacious Argentine might be the what the Red Devils need.
However, with Benfica quietly insistent upon keeping their man through till the end of the season, negotiations for the player are sure to be tricky.
