Rumour: Manchester United enter £54m negotiations for Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani

Can Manchester United tempt the Uruguayan to Old Trafford

Manchester United have reportedly opened talks with Paris Saint-Germain over the potential £54 million transfer of Edinson Cavani this summer, as part of their major summer shake-up, according to the Metro.

United are going ahead with their £200m summer spending spree despite being without a manager after sacking David Moyes on Tuesday and have been long-term admirers of the Uruguayan striker after learning that he has become unhappy with life at PSG.

PSG are keen on keeping hold of Cavani, who is reportedly disillusioned with not being the main man up front, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic the preferred option for the French league leaders as the lead striker, but a return on the money spent on the forward could still tempt them into a sale.

United may not have a manager in place for next season as yet, but they are prepared to press ahead with their summer transfer plans regardless, believing Cavani to be a worthy target for any potential management candidate.

Luke Shaw is already believed to be close to joining United in a £30million deal in the summer and United believe that they could be closing in on Cavani’s signature as well to give them added firepower up front ahead of the new season.

Cavani’s arrival would almost certainly spell the end for either Robin van Persie or Danny Welbeck at the club, with both players considering a move away from Old Trafford after themselves becoming disillusioned at United this campaign.
