Rumour: Manchester United set sights on Everton's Leighton Baines

Leighton Baines

Manchester United are ready to rekindle their interest in Everton’s left-backLeighton Baines in the January transfer window, according to the Mirror.

Baines was subject of a bid from former manager David Moyes in the summer but the Blues rebuffed their interest and held firm to keep hold of the England international.

It is thought Moyes will return to Everton with a £16 million bid for Baines, who has been out injured since injuring his toe against Liverpool in the Merseyside derby in November.

Moyes expects Everton to keep a tight hold on Baines once again so he needs to look somewhere else rather than spend the whole window trying to tempt Everton’s hand.

Luke Shaw is tipped to be on the end of many bids from some to club around Europe having impressed so much since making his Premier League debut last season and the young man may be subject of a bid from Moyes if he fails to attract Baines to Old Trafford.

With Patrice Evra certain to leave the club soon, and at the age of 32, Moyes is keen to replace him with a younger model and Baines, despite being just three years younger, seems to be the number one left-back target.

Baines has created 15 chances from left-back after 13 appearances this season. At the same stage last season, he had created 50 chances.
