Rumour: Manchester United linked with PSG striker Edinson Cavani
Edinson Cavani
Prompted by murmurings suggesting Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani may desire a move away from the French giants at the end of the current season, Manchester United are keeping tabs and ready to pounce for the Uruguayan international.
A fair bit of United’s talking has recently come not on the pitch, but through the clubs transfer activity during the January window. The recent acquisition of Juan Mata fromChelsea for a record fee represents a serious statement of intent from a club which, despite having stuttered during the current transitional period, harbours an abundance of prestige and history.
Although the likelihood of David Moyes obtaining silverware has been heavily diminished through having been knocked out of both the league cup and FA cup in January, the club have demonstrably shown they remain able to attract some of the biggest stars in football.
Cavani certainly falls under that bracket, having merited the £54 million forked over by PSG following several impressive seasons at Napoli. However, in the opinion of a few, the Uruguayan forward has failed to gel with teammate and Ligue 1?s top goalscorer, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and according to the Metro David Moyes has requested he be kept informed should PSG wish to offload him, or should an unhappy Cavani seek a move away.
It is reported that Cavani could be available for less than half what PSG initially paid for him, just £25 million, and Moyes could potentially pay even less through offering Shinji Kagawa alongside a smaller fee.
Having scored thirteen times from 52 shots, Edinson Cavani has recorded a 25% conversion throughout the current Ligue 1 season. Put another way, on average he has found the net once every four attempts.
