Manchester United ready to include Jadon Sancho in swap deal to sign midfielder from UCL club - Reports
Manchester United are reportedly contemplating including attacker Jadon Sancho in a swap deal for PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte. The 23-year-old has been with the Parisians since arriving from Sporting CP last summer.
In 37 games across competitions, he contributed three assists - all in Ligue 1 - as Luis Enrique's side won the domestic treble. His exploits have caught the attention of top clubs from around the continent, especially United.
Defensive midfield has become a concern for the Red Devils, with the uncertain future of Casemiro and Scott McTominay. As per The Athletic (via PSG Talk), the Parisians are asking for €60 million for Ugarte, but the Red Devils want to get him at a lower price.
With the transfer window closing in less than three weeks, United have stepped up their efforts to snap up the Uruguayan. As per The Independent (via The Mirror), they are ready to include Sancho in a swap deal, with the Englishman having recently returned from a six-month loan spell at his former club Borussia Dortmund.
The Parisians are set to sign Sancho on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy. It's said that the player is also 'open' to moving to the Parc des Princes, having infamously fallen out with United boss Erik ten Hag last September.
It's pertinent to note that Marcus Rashford is also reportedly being 'offered' to the Parisians, but the striker seems more likely to stay put at Manchester United than Sancho.
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag praises Marcus Rashford
Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford is coming off a bleak 2023-24 season, managing just eight goals and five assists in 43 games across competitions. Coming off a career-best 30-goal 2022-23 campaign, he reportedly faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford.
Rashford featured for 83 minutes in the 7-6 penalty-shootout loss in the FA Community Shield to Manchester City on Saturday (August 10), squandering multiple scoring opportunities.
However, boss Erik ten Hag reckons Rashford needs to keep getting into 'good' positions to rediscover his scoring form (as per The Mirror):
“I think he was several times in very good positions. I am very pleased he is getting in those positions. He needs to keep going and keep making those movements and he will score goals.
"He is experienced enough to deal with this. Once he scores one, the goals will come. When we have some news, we will announce it. Until that point, we will work with the squad that is available."
Manchester United open their Premier League campaign at home to Fulham on Friday (August 16).
