Manchester United receive surprise £25m transfer offer for Mason Greenwood: Reports
Manchester United have reportedly received an offer for attacker Mason Greenwood. The 22-year-old spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Getafe.
He has now returned to his parent club following his La Liga stint. But Greenwood seemingly has no future at Old Trafford despite a year remaining on his deal after being suspended following his arrest in January 2022 on charges of assault and coercive behavior.
Although the charges were lifted a year later, it was clear that he had no way back to the squad, as there was a massive backlash from fans on reports that Greenwood would be integrated back into the squad.
Eventually, he was loaned out to Getafe on a season-long deal, which is over now. With United looking to offload the attacker permanently, Estadio Deportivo (via Mirror) has reported that Valencia have tabled an offer of €25 million to sign Greenwood.
However, with Juventus also reportedly in the fray, it remains to be seen if Valencia snap up the United attacker, who spent a decent season on loan at Getafe in the recently concluded campaign.
Despite being more than a year away from competitive football, the Englishman bagged 10 goals and six assists in 36 games across competitions. Most of those goal contributions - eight goals and six assists in 33 games - came in La Liga, where Getafe finished 12th.
A look at Mason Greenwood's record with Manchester United
Mason Greenwood was one of the most promising players to have emerged from the ranks at Manchester United. He made a fabulous start to his senior career and was destined for greatness.
In 129 games across competitions, he registered 35 goals and 12 assists at the age of just 20. His most prolific campaign was in 2019-20, with Greenwood contributing 17 goals and four assists in 49 games across competitions.
However, destiny had other plans in store, as his Old Trafford career had a sudden halt. Nevertheless, considering his promising returns at Getafe, the striker will be keen to build on that.
