Manchester United star keen on staying in Premier League amid exit talks - Reports
Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay reportedly wants to remain in the Premier League despite reports of an exit. The 27-year-old has been at Old Trafford since the 2015-16 season.
Having come up through the ranks, McTominay has made 284 appearances across competitions for the Red Devils, contributing 32 goals and eight assists. Last season, he enjoyed his most prolific campaign in club football, registering 10 goals and three assists in 43 games across competitions.
The Scotsman has played both games this season - one in the Premier League - but continues to be linked with a departure from the club. With his contract running out next summer, McTominay has been linked with a move to 2022-23 Serie A champions Napoli (as per The Sun via Football Transfers).
However, the Serie A side don't seem keen to meet United's valuation of £41 million for the midfielder. Meanwhile, Fulham, Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace are also interested in McTominay, as per the aforementioned source, despite the player reportedly agreeing personal terms with the Partenopei.
The Red Devils are seemingly desirous of seeing McTominay leave, but the Scotsman could remain in the Premier League, something the player reportedly wants, thanks to interest from the three aforementioned clubs.
Erik ten Hag's side have had a busy summer, buying four new players and letting go nine. Would McTominay be the next through the Old Trafford exit door?
What's next for Manchester United?
Manchester United commenced their 2024-25 campaign with a loss to Manchester City in the FA Community Shield. After opening the scoring through Alejandro Garnacho in the 82nd minute, Bernardo Silva equalised for City seven minutes later.
In the ensuing shootout, City recovered from 3-1 down to win 7-6, snapping a three-game losing run in the competition. United recovered from the setback with a hard-foughr 1-0 home win over Fulham in their Premier League opener last weekend.
New signing Joshua Zirkzee came off the bench and latched on to a Garnacho assist to score the only goal of the game three minutes from time. The Red Devils next travel to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday (August 24).
Erik ten Hag's side lost 3-1 at home to Brighton in September, with Hannibal Mejbri bagging a 73rd-minute consolation. However, the Red Devils won 2-0 at Brighton on the final day, with Diogo Dalot and Rasmus Hojlund scoring in the second half.
