Rumour: Manchester United target Dejan Lovren as Nemanja Vidic's replacement

Manchester United have targeted Dejan Lovren as the latest defender to look over, as they look to bolster their defensive options for next season, according to the Daily Mail.

United are losing Nemanja Vidic on a free transfer to Inter Milan after the Serbian defender revealed he is excited about his new challenge, while it is expected that Rio Ferdinand will exit the club as well in the summer, with retirement a possibility, as well as moves to America or the the UAE.

Manager David Moyes has a reported £150 million to rebuild his underachieving squad in the summer and defenders are his priority after a season that has seen his side look suspect at the back.

With several big name centre-backs already linked with the club, Moyes has also decided to look at established Premier League defenders, and despite just one year in England, Lovren has taken to the league like a duck to water.

He has been a key member of the Southampton defence that has been one of the meanest in the division, having also gotten forward enough to net two goals for the Saints as well.

Lovren is believed to be open to a move to Old Trafford should United formalise their interest, while he could be accompanied to the reigning English Champions by any of Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana or Calum Chambers, with Moyes reportedly casting his eye over all three.
