Rumour: Manchester United preparing to make a move for Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw

Manchester United boss David Moyes is prepared to pay £30 million to sign highly rated Southampton pair Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw during the summer.

The Old Trafford chief has earmarked the Saints duo, who are both vying for a place in Roy Hodgson’s World Cup squad, as transfer targets as he looks to begin his overhaul of the United squad he inherited from Sir Alex Ferguson at the end of the season.

18-year-old full-back Shaw is seen as a potential long term replacement for Patrice Evra and would be installed as first choice on the left flank, a position he could hold for at least a decade if he fulfils his potential.

Meanwhile, according to the Metro, 25-year-old Lallana would provide a welcome edge of creativity to an uninspiring United midfield alongside Spaniard Juan Mata.

A host of United’s current crop are expected to be deemed surplus to requirements that would help fund the move, including Ashley Young, Nani, Antonio Valencia and Shinji Kagawa.

Southampton are expected to hold out for at least £20 million for each player and would be keen to cling onto their prize assets until after the World Cup, as a string of impressive performances on the world stage could see their value rise dramatically to spark a bidding war with Premier League rivals Manchester City and Chelsea both linked with the St. Mary’s stars.
