Mats Hummels has emerged as a prime target for Manchester United

Manchester United is all set to give a transfer budget of £100 million to their rumoured new manager Louis Van Gaal and the English media is speculating that Germany will be the favoured transfer market for the Dutchman. English media has reported that Van Gaal has already handed his transfer wish list to the United assistant vice chairman Ed Woodward where German international and Borussia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels has emerged as the prime target for the Manchester outfit, along with Kevin Strootman, Toni Kroos and Dortmund teammate Marco Reus.

Hummels has always been a favourite of the Dutch manager and he has identified the German as a rock in the defence who can be instrumental in the rebuilding of the squad. Louis Van Gall will be looking to utilise the budget well and straighten the back four at Old Trafford which will witness the departure of Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand and, possibly Patrice Evra.

Van Gaal is said to have handed Ed Woodward a wish-list, which includes Borussia Dortmund defender Hummels, Roma’s midfielder Kevin Strootman, as well as long-term United targets Toni Kroos and Marco Reus.

Dortmund will be looking to get complete value for their star defender who still has three years left in his contract, and are already considering a replacement in the form of Basel’s Fabian Schar. But the transfer will not be easy for United, as Barcelona has been monitoring the defender throughout the season and will be their prime adversary in the transfer market.
