Rumour: Napoli and Dortmund fight it out to lure Shinji Kagawa away from Manchester United

Shinji Kagawa has largely been a flop ever since joining the Red Devils and can be on the way out

Reports have surfaced suggesting Napoli are interested in signing Manchester United’s Shinji Kagawa.

The Japanese playmaker made the move from Borussia Dortmund to Old Trafford in 2012, for an initial fee of £12million, though has since struggled to consistently replicate the type of display which won him such high regard in the Bundesliga.

Kagawa spent much of the current season either on the bench or utterly out of form, though has, relatively recently, shown glimpses of promise that may be enough to convince the reigning champions to retain his services for another season.

Either way, Dortmund remain more than willing to offer Kagawa a Man United exit route, according to certain ex-teammates, but could now face competition from Naploli who, as reported by talkSPORT, are interested in capitalising on any decision to offload the midfielder.

Should they press ahead with their interest, it is speculated that United would expect to receive £15m for Kagawa, who currently has two years left on his contract with the Red Devils.

It was reported that the original fee paid to Dortmund could rise to as much as £17m, which suggests that, if the price-tag apparently attached to Kagawa holds true, United hope to break even on the purchase. This may seem ambitious, however, comparing the Japanese star’s record this season, three assists and no goals score, to the previous one, six goals and three assists.
