Rumour: Napoli playmaker Marek Hamsik may leave club in summer
Manchester United target Marek Hamsik could leave Napoli in the summer as he has grown unsettled with his lack of playing time at the Serie A outfit, reports the Express.
The 26-year-old has spent seven years with the Italian side and has been a central figure in their midfield for a number of years.
However, the Slovakian does not feature as heavily in the plans of current boss Rafael Benitez, who replaced Walter Mazzarri in the summer, and is beginning to become frustrated due to a lack of opportunities.
Hamsik has grown used to featuring prominently for the Serie A, who are currently third in the Serie A table, but has completed a full 90 minutes for the Spaniard on just five occasions this season.
Former Napoli boss Gianni Di Marzo has even hinted the rift with Benitez will results in Hamsik’s imminent departure: “Should Benitez remain [Hamsik] will be the first to be sold in the summer,” he insisted.
Club owner Aurelio De Laurentiis is now reportedly willing to listen to offers for the midfielder with Premier League duo Manchester United and Chelsea rumoured to be interested in a move for the player.
However, if he does become available, big spending Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain are believed to be favourites to land the £25 million rated midfielder.
Marek Hamsik appeared in every Serie A game for Napoli last season, but has failed to feature in eight during the current campaign.
