Napoli plot surprise move for Manchester United star - Reports
Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay is being reportedly pursued by Napoli. The 27-year-old has been at Old Trafford since the 2016-17 season.
Having come up through the ranks at Old Trafford, McTominay has contributed 29 goals and eight assists in 253 games across competitions. That includes his most prolific season of 10 goals and three assists in 43 games, starting 27, across competitions last campaign.
However, with his contract running out next summer, there has been speculation about his future. The Athletic (via MUFCMPB) has reported that Napoli are eyeing a move for the midfielder, who's also the subject of interest of Everton, Brentford, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce.
The Partenopei have been relatively quiet this summer, bringing in centre-backs Alejandro Buongiorno and Rafa Marin amidst reports of striker Victor Osimhen's exit.
Meanwhile, United have snapped up Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee and Lille centre-back Leny Yoro and let go Mason Greenwood, Wily Kambwala, Alvaro Carreras and Donny van de Beek.
The Red Devils opened their season with a 7-6 shootout defeat to Manchester City in the FA Community Shield on Saturday (August 10). Alejandro Garnacho's 82nd-minute opener was cancelled out by Bernardo Silva seven minutes later before Pep Guardiola's side won the ensuing shootout after trailing 3-1.
Supercomputer predicts Manchester United's 2024-25 Premier League finish
Manchester United are coming off their worst-ever Premier League season, finishing a lowly eighth, a year removed from their third-placed finish under Erik ten Hag.
Despite finishing the season on a high with an FA Cup triumph - beating Manchester City 2-1 in the final - and making a few reinforcements, the Red Devils are slated to have another underwhelming league campaign.
As per The Sun, an AI-powered Opta supercomputer - after 10,000 simulations - has predicted Ten Hag's side to marginally improve their eighth-placed finish from last season, at sixth.
Manchester City and Arsenal - in that order - are predicted to finish in the top-two, with Liverpool predicted to register back-to-back third-placed finishes under new boss Arne Slot.
There's a surprise at No. 4, though, with UEFA Champions League debutants Aston Villa predicted to drop four places to eighth, and Enzo Maresca's Chelsea to finish fourth. The Blues have had another busy summer, spending nearly £250 million, once again focusing on mostly youthful players.
At the other end of the table, the supercomputer has predicted the three promoted Championship sides - Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Southampton - to go down.
